merry christmas~

it's just turned christmas eve so christmas day is a nibble and a mince pie away : )~

so to everyone who has taken a part of their day to look at my work, as a thank you, here's a little christmas present to you,

I've also done a "process" video of me working on this, so if you've ever been curious as to how I do my dip pen and ink with watercolour illustrations, you can watch me here!

this is the first time I've done something like this, so there was a lot of struggling with technology and I apologise for the low quality.

duration: approx 2 hours (with wandering around and eating <3)

it was nice to revisit my dip pen style as I've been doing a lot of pencil, I hope you like it!

merry christmas : ) x

little look at "The Bloody Chamber- Puss in Boots"

the first project of my third year at middlesex was to do three illustrations plus the cover for "The Bloody Chamber" by Angela Carter, for the Folio Society competition.

i'm currently re-working my illustrations to make them darker but here's a little look at my illustration for Carter's 'Puss in Boots'. This project was when I decided to use pencil to illustrate, i'm starting to really enjoy this medium, I hope you like it too x

aesop's fables~ "the swollen fox"

currently everyone on my course are all juggling four different core projects, competition work and a dissertation each, so the stress is on!

here's a little peep of one of my projects to illustrate two aesop's fables,

this double spread is from "the swollen fox", about a starving fox finding food in a small hole in a hollow tree, scoffing it all down and then encountering the problem of not being able to get out again. Poor thing..

it's done with pencils, HB - 6B, i'm quite happy with how it's going so far : )
i'm experimenting on dropping in colour but still trying things in photoshop.

look forward to seeing it when finished~ x

cards and christmas fair stuff~

last Saturday, a group of us Illustration students from Middlesex helped out at the Walthamstow Art Fair selling lots of Christmas goodies from cards, to tags, to decorations and our advent calendar. It was a fun day and we raised quite a bit for our Degree show : )!

As featured on my banner currently, I produced a set of dapper dandy animals cards alongside other things for the fair~

I've been experimenting with drawing with pencils as advised from my third year tutor, and so far I'm really liking them with simple watercolour <3 I hope to continue this style alongside my pen and ink work. I hope you like the cards, we managed to sell out on all of them so I am quite chuffed : ) x

It's nearly Christmas and my year are doing an annual and advent calendar to sell at our Christmas Fair, please check out our Facebook event page and feel free to come along : )

I volunteered to do the month September and I did number 2 for the advent, here are my submissions, I hope you like them x

summer project

this is a very late post, sorry that I've been so dormant recently but here is my summer project for the third year! The brief was to create a body of work that represented what type of Illustrator we saw ourselves as in the future, I decided to create a nursery rhyme book as I've always loved rhymes and fairytales; and then continued using my pen and ink with watercolour technique that I've taken a liking to over my course : ).

Humpty Dumpty was my favourite character : ), in my project I tried to incorporate some of my slightly surreal and sinister character drawing into these classic rhymes to add a twist, I hope you enjoy the illustrations x.

(and I apologise for the not-so-great photography here..)

a series of postcards

Hello, I've been so preoccupied this summer that I haven't been able to post much here, but recently I helped out at the E17 Art Trail with my tutor Andrew Baker, former student Stacie Swift and fellow student Abigail Moulder. It was lots of fun and a great atmosphere in Walthamstow : )! Here are some postcards I made to sell amongst other items. Enjoy : ) x

"Dandies" tea cards

My final project of second year was to create my own collection of tea cards with the theme of "Dandies", including the cards and collector's album for them.

A photo of the album and my set of 14 tea cards featuring real life dandies from the past and present. I was very happy with this project : )

Photos of the back and front of the album, alongside the original black & white pen illustrations inside the book (see below) and the original pen and watercolour dandy illustrations.

Above are the album's pages and how the album would look like when all tea cards were collected and stuck into the album. Writing and explanations by me telling a bit about each dandy and their life and other relevant information. Took a lot of time but well worth it!

A couple of close-ups of the edited pen and watercolour drawings into a card format.

The whole collection front and back views, I tried my best to recreate the original feel of tea cards and I was overall very pleased : ). Really enjoyed painting them and making everything! I hope you enjoy looking at them too x
